Folio 260. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to James Saunders, Clerk to the East Dereham Local Government District Local Board acknowledging his letter of 7 November 1883 and saying that the Board thinks that the present vacancy occurred on 10 October 1883, that is, the date the gentleman elected declined to take up office. Therefore, the local board can still elect someone to fill the vacancy. But, if they want to remove any doubt an order should be issued under rule 65 of schedule 2 of the Public Health Act 1875. On being told, the Board will issue an order extending the time for filling the vacancy. The names of the member who resigned and that of his co-opted replacement should be sent to the Board as well as the date when the original member's period of service would have expired.
