Letter from O.? D. Tudor to Rev. R.J. Davies. He agrees with D. that it was "clearly by mistake" that Mrs. Davies's fortune has passed out of her family. It was not Mrs. Davies' settlement but the settlement made on the marriage of Miss Glynne Mytton's father and mother which gave her power to dispose of it. No one was more surprised at this than Miss Mytton and she at once wrote to say that she would give the money up to Mrs. Davies but she cannot do this as she only has a life interest & it is settled upon infants. Those who take life interests might perhaps under the circumstances give them up to John Davies during his life, which would be a great satisfaction to Mrs. Davies Tudor feels in an awkward position. He does not wish to interfere in the family affairs of others, and yet knowing Mrs. Davies' circumstances and being aware as her trustee that she does not get even under her settlement that which she contracted for, and for which she gave up absolutely a considerable sum, he can hardly abstain from writing this to D. in the hope that what Miss Mytton proposed may be at any rate partially carried into effect.
