Album of B&W images illustrating progress with the construction of the Otto Beit Bridge (since renamed the Chirundu Bridge) over the Zambesi River at Chirundu. Images included show stone being quarried, foundations being dug, erection of towers, various general views of work being completed and of the completed bridge. Also included are images of the Engineer's Bungalow under construction and a view of the compound where the 'native' workers lived.
A further image depicts a staff posing for the camera on the event of a visit by Sir J MacDonald in May of 1938 while others point to the difficult working conditions by showing cars traversing mud roads.
The final images in the album are taken from the opening ceremony on the 24 May 1939 and show Lady Beit, Lillian Lady Beit and other dignitaries. -
