Draft minutes and presented papers

These are the records of the fortnightly meetings of the Committee of Visiting Justices of the Middlesex Sessions for Hanwell Asylum. They are arranged in bundles, one for each meeting. The minutes usually form the outer cover with the other papers slotted inside. The meetings covered all aspects of the administration of the Asylum, including employment of staff, necessary works at the Asylum, the Asylum's financial position, contracting for provisions for the Asylum, incidents involving the patients, proposals for the better care and treatment of the patients and consideration of correspondence and reports by outside bodies concerned with the care of lunatics, notably the Commissioners in Lunacy and the Boards of Guardians.

Only one volume of minutes survives, covering October 1868 to September 1870 (indexed) (Ref: LCC/MIN/1068), with the records of the London County Council Asylums Committee Hanwell Sub-Committee which took over the administration of the Asylum from April 1889. Presented papers 1892-1939 were sent for salvage during the Second World War, and only one volume exists 1939-1948 (LCC/MIN/1116).
