Volume 1

Copies of letters and other documents originally in her parents possession, in chronological order. There is an introductory note in the volume on the material she used, together with a note that when she had transcribed the letters, etc, she intended to present the originals to her brother Cowper. There is a loose leaf index in the front of the volume. The extracts and copies are interspersed with notes and commentary by Lady Sarah giving information about the date or people concerned.

This volume contains copies of the following documents: letters in a "vellum book" being exchanges between Queen Mary and the Princess of Denmark about the then Lady Marlborough, 1692; exchange of letters between Mrs Morley and Mrs Freeman, 1704 [see also DE/P/F63]; copy of address of thanks from House of Lords to Duke of Marlborough, December 1706 [see also DE/P/F63; letters from the Duchess of Marlborough to Lady Cowper, and copies of further Morley-Freeman items and other material to be found in DE/P/F206 interspersed with letters from Hanover (Mlle Schutz and Princess Caroline) [see DE/P/F204 and F201], and extracts from the diaries of Sarah, Lady Cowper, the 1st Earl's mother, covering the period 1709-13. At end of volume are some notes and copies of items connected with Lady Arran's infatuation with the 1st Earl [see DE/P/F202]
