Description

Letter written by Mr Elgee of Dorman Long to a Mr W.C. Duncan of Exchange Place, Middlesbrough. The letter makes reference to another letter (described by Elgee as 'strange and rambling') from a Captain Kitching, in which he expressed the desire that a photograph of him, which he had sent with the letter, to be passed to the Duncan family on whose boat he first went to sea; B&W image of John Kitching, annotated verso with details of his life, including his d.o.b.; Handwritten letter from Kitching acknowledging his pleasure that the picture of him was passed to Mr. Duncan and explaining, in some detail, his life since leaving [South Skelton] mine; Newspaper article, cover story from 19 March 1932 edition of 'Truth', with the headline 'Scissors War at Bridge Opening' and reporting that there was to be opposition to the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge by a Mr. Lang and an article entitled 'Ships for Pruning Knife Next', which in his letter Kitching states to be written by him.
