Report on 2/Lt W Adam 1/1 E Kent Yeo at Sollum 10/9/1916 by Brig Gen H W Hodgson, Cdg 3 Dism Bde: Unfitted for position, From careful enquiries I have made and personal observation I do not consider this officer will ever prove himself fitted to lead men in the field. Major Blake'd report will explain his faults. His age is 30. Length of commissioned service 1 yr 5m
Report 4/11/1918 not likely to become an efficient offiver vide 255 attached. Eligible for promotion to Capt to fill a vacancy in Regt. GOC-in-C MGTC Grantham replies unable to report on officer - only recently returned TC - served with 8 MG Coy. Recommended. Died 3/11/1918
Medical Report: Influenza - acute difuse myelitis. Admitted hospital 30/10/1918 suffering acute headache & severe aching pains all over - cough. Temp 101, pulse 116. Pyrexia fell to 99.6 but rose to 102 - drowsy, vomiting. Lethargic - dark sunken eyes, tongue white fur, cyanosia lips. 2 macules on abdomen.
Later - worse - lying like a log in bed- unable to move legs. No food taken - does not speak. Can only perform slight movement with arms - legs flacoid, reflex slight. Arms rigid in flexion and resents attempts to move them. Triceps jerk sharp. Bladder distended, bowels not open. Weakness r. side of face. Tongue protruded in middle line - no deviation of head/eyes. Hyperalgesia present in upper body. Wherever pressure occurs below umbilicus, a wheal or blister develops. Circular pigment scars on centre left tibial region. Lumbar puncture, Capt Hall - fluid drawn off.
3/11/1918 patient worse and died 0445. No growth at all from cerebro-spinal fluid on trypagar. Urine drawn off by cathetar yesterday shows trace of albumen.
NB: Possibility of a syphilitic condition being present suggested by scars on leg. Died: Belton Mil Hosp.
