Description

Petition to form Hiram's Lodge to meet on the first Saturday of each month, nominating Abraham Hassan as Worshipful Master, Jacob Israel as Senior Warden, Joseph Gabizon as Junior Warden and members including Salamon Benamor, Haim Hassan, Abraham Gabizon, David Hassan and Jacob Levy. Mentions that the Lodge met under a provincial warrant granted by Mother Lodge of St John, No. 28 [SN 86], Gibraltar twelve or thirteen years previously but lost this during the Great Siege of Gibraltar from 1779 to 1783. Since that date, the Mother Lodge of St John was affiliated to the Antients' Grand Lodge, under Laurence Dermott, meeting as St John's Lodge, No. 148 [SN 699], Gibraltar. The Petition is supported by members of Lodge of Inhabitants', No. 186 [SN 524], Gibraltar, including George Peeper, Worshipful Master, Robert Cooper, Senior Warden, Robert Keeling, Junior Warden, Alexander Ross, Secretary, Peter Crusoe, Treasurer, Mark Hollister, Past Master, Henry Cowper, Senior Past Master, W M Leake, Thomas Eden, Christian Shelskey, Joseph Horsey, John Dadd, Stephen Simpson and James Tucker Corrick. The petitioners request a warrant a copy of the Book of Constitutions and a copy of the last minutes of the Quarterly Communications of Grand Lodge.

Administrative / biographical background

Hiram's Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet in Gibraltar as No. 490 on 22 November 1786. It had met under a provincial warrant granted by Mother Lodge of St John, No. 28 [SN 86], Gibraltar in about 1773 or 1774 but lost this provincial warrant during the Great Siege of Gibraltar from 1779 to 1783. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 400 in 1792 but was erased at the time of the union between the Moderns' and Antients' Grand Lodges to form the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813.
