Gallantry Notes: MC:For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in gathering a small party, making his way through very heavy shellfire and extracating three machine guns from a village into which the enemy was penetrating. He fought these guns with the greatest gallantry, although wounded, until being hit a second time he was unable to see. His courage was most marked and his action in recovering and fighting the guns of the greatest value.;
