Account book of John Webb: receipts and payments, chiefly payments for work done which in earlier entries is set against rent; tenant's family employed - Wm. Dekins' children picking apples at 1d. per day, daughter raking stubble for 4 days, 1s. 4d., hemp spinning, etc. (1764-9); jobs chiefly agricultural but Silvester of Warwick, a mason, was employed between 1765-8; references to work on turnpike, bank piling and work on behalf of parish; on 22 Dec. 1766 Scruby was paid for powder and shot which he bought in the winter to keep the crows off the turnips in 1765 and 1766; on 22 Dec. 1764 John Williams received £2. 2s. in part for plastering the house called the Red Horse; the account is usually settled on a Saturday night but the intervals are elastic and 8 weeks may elapse before payment is made.
