One gun under Sgt Gibson went over with 2 Yorks R on the right. 4 guns under Lt S Tonge held the line and one gun by 2 Yorks R HQ left in charge of 2/Lt S Paterson. The objective was GIRD and GIRD SUPPORT trenches. Objective was gained but for some reason the infantry returned to our trenches and our gun teams did likewise. All guns that went over were safely carried back. Casualties: 2/Lt Pickard wounded and 7 Ors wounded. 2/Lt Paterson was wounded later in the day by the 2 Yorks HQ and died shortly after reaching the dressing station.";
