According to Hutchins' History of Dorset this chapel was ruined in the Civil War, but in a footnote the author suggests that it "was not suffered to fall down till after the Restoration". There are only a few isolated register entries after 1668. It is likely that most of the early burials and all later christenings, marriages and burials took place at Whitchurch Canonicorum, with which it was united in 1700, until the new church was built in 1841.
