Administrative / biographical background

The International Peace Bureau (IPB) is the world's oldest and most comprehensive peace movement federation. It was founded in 1891 and from 1924 to 2017 it was based in Geneva. The IPB has 300 member organisations in 70 countries, and together with individual members it forms a global network, bringing together knowledge and campaigning exerience in a common cause. The IPB links experts and advocates working on smiliar issues in order to build strong civil society movements. The dominant themes are conflicts / conflict zones, human rights and peace movement work. The IPB has had Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council since 1977. The IPB also has associate status with the Department of Public Information. The IPB won the Nobel Prize in 1910 and thirteen individual IPB officers have also received the Prize - a larger total than any other organisation.
