These memoranda, mostly prepared by India Office, Foreign Office and Government of India officials, cover the whole field of the Political Department's interests ranging from East Africa to China, and including the Indian Princely States. They are divided into four sections according to area/subject and within each section are arranged in rough chronological order. The bulk of the material falls within the period 1875-1947 but there are some items of an earlier date. The list contains cross-references to related Political and Secret files.
