ff. 139-40 Offers the Burton and Lincoln Breweries Ltd., Burton-on-Trent, a set of Kilns at Gainsborough making 6000 quarters a year and another at Grimsby doing 4000 quarters. Their small Kiln at Lincoln which makes 2000 quarters is at present on offer elsewhere. Would be glad to rent their (ie. the breweries') kiln from them on the usual basis of £2 per quarter rent and to work it on their account. They have seen some very good barleys in this district and Gainsborough being on the Trent is only 6d. per quarter freight from Hull for all Austrian and foreign barleys. They have another small kiln at Gainsborough doing nearly 1000 quarters.

f. 388 30 Dec. 1894 To Sanderson, maltster at Wakefield. Asks if there is an opening for a young fellow in his business "My brother who is now 32 and was brought up with the idea of taking up our malting business did not get on well at home in his young days with my Father and started farming some 8 or 10 years ago, at which time to assist my Father, I gave up the Bar and took up the business.... He would of course like to join me, but I do not want anyone, as you will understand when I say that since my father's death 5 years ago I have added Kiln accommodation for 10000 qrs and am virtually sold out of all the malt I can make this season".
