Alfred Emanuel is the donor's uncle. He was born in Hove, Sussex in 1916. His father, Moritz emigrated to England in 1899 but returned to Frankfurt to marry Bessy Goldschmidt and brought her to England. The family made frequant visits to Frankfurt until Hitler came to power. Sally and Leontina Goldschmidt came to England in the late 1930's and Carl, Ina, Lily and Moritz and the children went to the United States. Alfred later trained and worked as an accountant. He married a German Jewish refugee whose family had settled in the Brighton area. They set up home in London and had three children.
