This section consists of a range of manuscript, typescript and printed writings by Avtar Jouhl as well as transcripts of interviews with him. Most of the writings are on subjects relating to campaigns against racism and immigration controls, or on Communist politics in India and China. The most substantial interview transcripts consist of a series of oral history interviews carried out by the Birmingham Black Oral History project in which Avtar Jouhl discusses his life and career, including his involvement with the Indian Workers Association, and is a rich source of information for his views and experiences.
The section also contains some typescript and printed articles not written by Avtar Jouhl, including a copy of a dissertation on the Indian Workers Association. Most of the writings date from the late 1970s and the 1980s, although there are some later items, including the transcripts from the Birmingham Black Oral History interviews which took place in around 1991
