Description (What the record is about)
-
In the Catalogue of Papers compiled by William D. Brown about 1791 is listed a file under the following title:
Jas Watt. Letters 1768 to 1790
The file was probably at that time in the form of a bundle. Later its contents were divided between ? portfolios, and the present file corresponds to the second of these, the title of which was:
Jas. Watt 1780 to 1781
(This is the title as recorded in the Assay Office Inventory of January 1921, but unfortunately the portfolio was subsequently discarded.) Under M. R. Boulton’s arrangement, the file was placed in Box K. I.
The contents of the file are arranged in one chronological sequence, except three documents placed at the end under the heading, "Miscellaneous Document," which may have been transferred by the Assay Office from their original locations.
Note that the place known in the 18th century as Cosgarne is now called Cusgarne. -
