Description

Sir John Richardson FRS spent most of his life in the Naval Medical Service. A noted naturalist, he served on Sir John Franklin's arctic expeditions

Original illustrations and plates, some mounted, many loose, with annotations, several bearing indications that they were mailed to John Richardson. Includes a letter from William Yarrell to Richardson (1833) discussing fish. No indication of how the material came into the possession of the MBA, though a note on the wrapping states that the volume was found in the Fisheries Store in 1959.

Used by Sir John Richardson in preparing the 3rd edition of William Yarrell's "A History of British fishes" (1859).
