Dick Etheridge's Daily Working Notes as convener. Diaries and Notebooks.

The Daily Working Notes (DWNs) are substantial in bulk and particularly important for the years 1945-53 during which Dick Etheridge kept few other records. They consist of MS. notes on his daily business as convener, particularly in respect of meetings with SSs and management. Interfiled are circulars (mainly from the AEU Birmingham District), letters, the minutes of combine SSs mtgs., accounts, lists of SSs. and other pprs. : up to 1953 virtually all correspondence was filed in this way. From 1963 onwards Dick Etheridge wrote his DWNs on pre-printed cards in a wallet format. Previously he had used scrap paper, folded to fit in his pocket. On the reverse side of DWNs written on scrap paper are various items of SSs' ephemera, particularly re disputes, and internal documents of the Austin Motor Co.
