Letter dated 2 Dec 1835 from Colonel Charles William Pasley, Superintendent of the Royal Engineers' Training Depôt at Chatham, to Edward Thornton, Secretary's Department, East India House - he alludes to the alleged disadvantages, as regards service and promotion, experienced by UK recruits for the Madras and Bombay Sappers and Miners, and recommends that all of this season's S and M recruits be sent to Bengal.
