Description (What the record is about)
-
Letter from J.P. to M.A. Fitter. Mr Gelson has told him that it was arranged between him and the executors that he was to get 5% on the gross returns exclusive of his travelling expenses. J.P. asks, if this is so, it would be another good reason for adopting the course suggested in his letter of 17 inst.
29 Dec 1880
Letter from M.A.F. to J.P. in reply to the above stating "Mr Gelson's memory must have signally failed as to his Commission". Soon after his appointment it was suggested it should be 5% on the returns. Then M.A.F. found he was acting on this and suspecting that he was intending also to charge full travelling expenses. Mr Pugh, Mr Ratcliffe & M.A.F. spoke to him and although they could not recognise the expenses of his frequent journies to London, they would allow him one journey per 4 weeks and his railway fare of any journey to Manchester or elsewhere, which amounted to £250 debited in the Receiver's account. This should be allowed apart from the commission on the sale. J.P. is unsure of Mr Gelson's views and it may be that he will accept £250 in discharge of travelling expenses & commission.
