Haverton Hill Shipyard was built in 1918 and was closed in the Spring of 1979. Lord Furness II and his company Furness Shipbuilding Co were based at Haverton Hill Shipyard from 1918, it became part of Sears Holdings Ltd, owned by Charles Clore in 1951. In 1969 Sears Group closed down the Shipyard. Directors in Dec 1969 were Charles Clore, J.C. Gardiner, L.Sainer & C.J. Shearer.In 1966 Swan Hunter Ltd merged with Smiths Dock Co Ltd to form Swan Hunter & Tyne Shipbuilders Ltd and in 1968 Graythorpe Dock closed. In 1969 Swan Hunter & Tyne Shipbuilders Co took over Furness Shipbuilding and Haverton Hill Shipyard.
