South Bank Chemical Company Limited was incorporated under the Companies (Consolidation) Act 1908 on 11th October 1912. The company's operated as manufacturers, distillers, merchants and dealers in chemical products including ammonia, oxides and, most significantly, tar. The Company operated from land leased from Cargo Fleet Iron Company Limited at a rate of £95 per year. The registered offices of the company were at South Bank. Registered as a Private Company, the capital of the company consisted of 10,000 £1 Shares. The two majority share holders were Cargo Fleet Iron Company Limited, possessing 6516 shares, with Brotherton and Company Limited holding 3182 shares, the latter company being appointed as managers of the company.
The first Meeting of Directors was held 30th October 1912 under the Chairmanship of Edward Allen Brotherton Esq. In May 1953 South Bank Chemical Company Limited entered into a Partnership Agreement with South Durham Steel and Iron Company Limited. However, the Partnership Agreement was short lived, with South Bank Chemical Company Limited exercising Clause 14 of the agreement and retiring from the partnership in October 1953.
In July 1958, by means of an Extraordinary Resolution, it was agreed that the company be wound up voluntarily by means of a Members Voluntary Winding Up.
