In November 1926 three Newick schools were amalgamated to form a mixed school which was known as Newick CE School. Lady Vernon's Charity School for girls had been endowed in 1771 (for its history see VCH 2 440), Newick Board (later Council) Infants' School was opened in 1882 on a site adjoining Lady Vernon's School and Newick National School (mentioned in the 1855 directory) was a mixed junior and infants' school until 1881, when the infants' department closed on the opening of Newick Board School
