The papers listed below represent many years of painstaking research into the history of Winchelsea by Mr. W. MacLean Homan who died in 1956. A bibliography of his contributions to Sussex Archaeological Collections and Sussex Notes and Queries is given as an Appendix to this catalogue. A quantity of Mr. Homan's notes and some drawings were either damaged by damp or were unidentifiable; these, together with various drafts of some of the articles listed below were (with the consent of the depositor) destroyed as useless
