Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took forward two of his guns to cover a gap in the line and controlled them skilfully during a strong enemy attack. Later he did most excellent service in organising infantry near him whose officers had all become casualties.;

Original citation: For bravery during operations near Mesplaux Farm from 9/14 April 1918 and especially on the 10th and 11th April. On the 10th he took forward two of his guns to cover a gap in our lines in front of Mesplaux Farm and on the 11th, he controlled them during a strong enemy attack, and when the line was eventually forced back onto Mesplaux Farm, he did excellent work in organising the infantry in his vicinty, whose officers had all become casualties. Recommended by Capt HG Gurney OC "C" Coy 1 Bn MGC, countersigned by Brig RJ Kentish DSO, Cdg 166 Bde.
