In 1954, Oppé was invited by the Board of Trustees of the Cecil Higgins Museum, Bedford, to undertake a review of the watercolours in the collection, and to advise on the ways in which they should continue to 'improve, complete and extend' it. He was engaged in this task alongside Edward Croft-Murray, of the British Museum.
