St Michael & All Angels was built as a chapel of ease to St. Laurence, Northfield. The church was begun in 1838 and was consecrated in 1848. It was enlarged, with the addition of a sanctuary and chancel, in 1878. In 1933 it became a chapel of ease to St. Gabriel, Weoley Castle and this arrangement lasted until 1950 when a Conventional District was attached to St. Michael and All Angels. It became a parish in 1966.
A new church, designed by H Norman Haines, architects of London, was built on a new site at the junction of Romsley Road and Field Lane and this church was consecrated in 1966. A new vicarage and church hall were also built at this date
In 1973, part of the parish was taken to form a Conventional District attached to Woodgate Valley Church Centre
