This interesting and varied collection relates largely to the Lulworth Castle Estates in Dorset and the owners, the Newburghs, Howards and finally (from 1641/2) the Weld family. Some of the Weld estates in other counties are also concerned, but the large section relating to Lancashire and Yorkshire (Shirburne family) concerning has been deposited in the Lancashire Record Office, and another section (largely Simeon family) concerning estates in Staffordshire, Oxfordshire and Derbyshire has been deposited in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, and are not described in this catalogue.
