Description (What the record is about)
-
639 Sandford Street, Covington, Kentucky, United States.
Letter from Thomas Bird to Mr Webster. Some months before Mr Bird wrote to Mr Webster's father and say in a Shrewsbury Chronicle received about a week later the notice of his death. He had hoped to see him in England but was prevented from coming over when he intended. "we felt the effects of the late American War severely" living in a Southern State. They are still burdened with the public debt and taxes it entailed. He is much obliged to Mr Webster for the Shrewsbury Chronicles and sends Mr W. their newspapers when they contain anything likely to be of interest to him. They have had a very hot and dry summer leading to "fearful conflagrations of forests, towns and cities" in the N.W. states. Although it is so many years since he saw Shrewsbury he has a very distinct recollection of it. His wife has a very kind remembrance of Mr Webster's mother.
