Description

A Plott of Quantocke belonging to the Right Honorable the Earl of Northumberland. R Treswell

16" to 1 mile OS sheet mainly 49 SW

Ink and watercolour on parchment

Mainly Over Stowey, but including parts of the parishes of Crowcombe, Holford, East Quantoxhead and Bicknoller. Names of places given, and some acreages. Water shown and other landmarks, including the Pound, Crowcombe Cross and 'Cocorcom Castell', a prehistoric camp South of Cockercombe. The map is enclosed in a black and yellow border and the scale is enclosed in a scrolled border with a pair of dividers above, the whole partly decorated with gold leaf. The crescent badge of the Percy family is also illustrated, surmounted by the coronet of an earl. The area illustrated on the map is liberally covered with a selection of grazing animals.
