Part 1 covers Numbers 1-119 (folios 41-233) from the Index to the first half of the Guard Book (folios 1-20). Folios 21-40 comprise several unnumbered items which have been included in the volume but are not listed in the Index.

Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)

The volume is now in three parts:. Part 1: folios 1-233; Part 2: folios 234-467; Part 3: folios 468-701; The volume also contains two indexes, the first located at the beginning of the volume and the second after folio 424. Each index uses its own numbering sequence to enable entries to be located. The entries referred to in the indexes commence on folio 21. Folio 549 is out of order, and is located immediately after folio 550. The first index uses reference numbers 1-238, which cover folios 1-406. Numbers 152 and 229 have not been used. The second index uses reference numbers 1-438, and covers folios 407-701. Numbers 25-64 were removed in the 19th century and transferred to another book. Entry 115-119 (folios 467-469) has been split across two parts, with folio 467 in part 2 and folios 468-469 in part 3. For entries with numbers 1-349 only odd numbers have been used, the only exceptions to this being numbers 18, 64a, 86, 130 and 168. From number 350 onwards both odd and even numbers have been used.

The volume originally contained Papers on the Hyderabad Assigned Districts and Berar and Mysore Administration, which were numbered as 25-64 and would have been located between folios 439 and 440. These papers were removed in the nineteenth century and transferred to another volume, according to the index. According to the description in the index the papers related to officers employed in the administration of these areas and matters relating to their pay and processing of pay certificates.
