Surname: PROUT;
Forename(s): Alfred Reginald;
Initials: AR;
Number: 81710;
Rank: Sergt;
Born in: Plymouth;
MGC Branch: Infantry;
MGC Unit: Unknown;
Awarded: BEM;
Other Data: nothing at all has come through the family. He left the family home in London around 1925 (we have electoral register records for him up to that date), and my wife’s father never spoke of him though he would have only been five years of age in 1925.
Alfred Reginald Prout was born in Plymouth in 1891, though the birth index has a mistype and the second name appears as ‘Raginald’. By the time of the 1901 census he lived in Camberwell, and by 1911 he was a ‘Bioscope Operator’. After 1925 we can find no subsequent census entries, no death record and no passenger list entries for him. Very much a man of mystery.;Other Notes: "The Times" 14/06/1918: Sgt AR Prout MGC awarded Medal of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for conspicuous courage and devotion to duty whilst on special service in Russia & Rumania.
LG: 07/06/1918;END OF RECORD.
