Atherstone Congregational Church was formed in 1794, occupying a chapel built at the rear of the "Coach and Horses" two years previously. A new chapel was built in 1826 in North Street, which remained in use until 1983. A split occured in 1849, when a section of the congregation established a separate Church in a chapel in Coleshill Street. The two Churches were eventually reunited in 1877, and the Coleshill Street chapel was sold a few years later. A history of this Church is available in the Record Office Library under the reference B.ATH.Pra.(P).
