Development position: 82 hours running have been carried out during the period, making a total of 11483 hours P.240: Is promised for 2-hour test P.103: Has carried out 170 air starts and 20-hour endurance test with a BTH starter and hydraulic dog. The engine was rejected due to failure of a satellite inner race track and in this case the cages were OK P.105: Returned from Rotol after 80 hours running due to failure of the 1st row turbine rotor blades P.146: Has been rebuilt to the same standard as P.240 for 150-hour test with EEL.3 oil P.104: Carried out a 2-hour test with the re-designed manifold. It was in good condition after the test and the engine is being rebuilt for despatch to Rotol to replace P.105 2 Other maters arising on Python engines 1 Jet pipe temperature control 2 Anti-icing 3 Alternative fuels 4 Fuel pump seizure 5 Reverse torque switch Production position. Mr Dakin reported that the necessary modifications have been cleared on production and are being fitted to engines 6 Engine troubles (a) Igniters (b) Disc cracking (c) Loose rear nut on rear airscrew shaft roller bearing (d) New turbine labyrinth (e) Increased capacity pump (f) Python harness (g) 2nd row turbine failure (h) Flow control unit (i) Stall recovery experiments (j) BTH starter oil leaks (k) Oil starvation to auxiliary PCU pump 7 RTO memos: X.25/1222/FHB. This asks for help in fitting the 2-stop propeller X.25/1296/JAF. This refers again to safety precautions on the 2-bottle starter trolley X.25/1392/JAF. Excessive float on the cut on Wyvern aircraft VZ.746. this aircraft is fitted with an engine having 190 deg pitch stop and it is being sent to Bitteswell for our assessment of its characteristics at the cut Spinning test on Wyvern VW.886 Miscellaneous (a) Laboratory report DX.1455. We will use Esso High temperature Grease No.1 on the accessories rive on P.240 for the 150-hour test
