Gallantry Notes: MC:For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a company of machine guns. Noticing that certain rearguards were being heavily engaged, he personally went forward with two machine guns under a very heavy rifle and machine gun fire and engaged the enemy with great effect, forcing them to retire and thus allowing the rearguards time to withdraw. It was largely due to his skill and utter disregard of personal danger that the enemy was kept at a distance and did nothing further to hamper the rearguard movements.;
