BETHNAL GREEN, STEPNEY

[26 February 1743]. Petition by the parish officers and inhabitants, stating that Stepney contains five hamlets of which Bethnal Green is one; the hamlet contains 1,800 houses and a population of 15,000, most of whom are two miles from the parish church. The commission purchased a site in 1725. They petition for a church to be built and a parish constituted (13 signatures) (ff.5v-6). Also (f.7) a plan of White's Ground, [27 November 1724].
