Description

The administration (Political) files of the Political Agency, Bahrain, deal with matters of political and economic importance during the 1930s, and specific issues (particularly food control and publicity) relating to the Second World War (1939-45). The files fall into a number of groups and individual subjects:. the issue by Bahrain for the first time of stamps bearing the word 'Bahrain', and the reaction from the Government of Iran, in view of the Persian claim to Bahrain (IOR/R/15/2/139); relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (IOR/R/15/2/140); Qatar affairs (IOR/R/15/2/141-143); honours bestowed on Gulf rulers and others (IOR/R/15/2/144); the issue of customs dues levied on goods for Saudi Arabia that were transhipped at Bahrain (IOR/R/15/2/145-148); the activities of the Persian Navy in the Gulf (IOR/R/15/2/149); Bahrain nationality and property laws (IOR/R/15/2/150-151); Arabic language broadcasting (IOR/R/15/2/152-153); the selection of a site at Bahrain for the transfer of the Political Residency in the Persian Gulf from Bushire (IOR/R/15/2/154-155); the limit of Persian territorial waters (IOR/R/15/2/156); negotiations concerning the eastern boundary of Saudi Arabia (IOR/R/15/2/157-161); gun-running and piracy (IOR/R/15/2/162-163); the imposition of economic sanctions against Italy (IOR/R/15/2/164); Palestine (IOR/R/15/2/165); the implementation of defence measures in the run-up to the outbreak of the Second World War (IOR/R/15/2/166); two employment cases involving workers at the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) refinery (IOR/R/15/2/167); the assessment of the strength of the Khaksar Movement in Bahrain (IOR/R/15/2/168); the operation of the food control system at Bahrain during the Second World War (IOR/R/15/2/169-173); wartime publicity and propaganda (IOR/R/15/2/174)
