Description

Crank Engines. (2 items).

416. James Miller, Craigend (GG). Jul. 1809, Sep. 1812. 2 items.
14 horse power double-acting crank engine, with 20¾ inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.

Reverse plan and sections of the engine house. All the drawings bear letter codes.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 606. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 76.

For James Miller. Distillery, Craigend, near Stirling. The engine was bought by William Young & Co. of Burnt Island for their distillery, but in Sep. 1812 they sold it on to John Lander of Edinburgh for his leather mill at Silver Mills, Edinburgh. A new set of drawings was made for Lander and given new codes, which are noted on these drawings. The Catalogue of Old Engines confuses this engine with the first one made for William Young in 1805 [see Portfolio 5/365].
