Description (What the record is about)
-
This composite collection, compiled by a former Head of Special Collections, Steve Holland, comprises items directly and indirectly linked to the performance of Charles Dickens' works.
These materials illustrate the wide range of productions which were based on Dickens' works. There is also a selection of ephemera which demonstrate the commercial popularity of Dickens performed.
Items in the collection include playbills, publicity postcards, programmes, books, illustrations and cuttings. Much of the material is nineteenth and early twentieth century, but there are also items from the later twentieth century, such as a playbill from the musical Oliver! performed at the Piccadilly Theatre and a handful of items from performances in the twenty-first century.
