The Lodge of Independence was established in 1785 and met at the Castle and Falcon, Watergate Street, Chester. In 1785 the lodge was named the Industrious Lodge and then in 1788 renamed the Lodge of Independence. In 1820 the lodge met at the Old Nag's Head, Foregate Street, Chester and the meetings remained there until the lodge was erased in 1828
