Description (What the record is about)
-
Survey volume Q2 is the second in the series of seven 'Q' volumes, which covers the Ecclesiastical Corporations of Lincoln, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation. ; This volume covers the surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Cluttons, Messrs. Pickering & Smith and Messrs. Smith & Watkins. The volume include the following: the Gedney Sinecure Rectory Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 15 April 1852 by vacancy; the Ketton Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 3 February 1870 by vacancy; the Langford Ecclesia Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 9 September 1846 by Order in Council; and the Langford Manor Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in July 1844 by vacancy.; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as the survey reports gave a comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent, condition and value of the preferments being transferred.; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from the Ecclesiastical Corporations, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports. ; The volume also has annotations often regarding the disposal of property since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporates later dates.; The geographical areas covered within the volume includes: the county of Lincolnshire, parishes of Kelsey, Sleaford, Louth, Marston, Melton Ross, Scamblesby, Binbrooke, Bishops Norton, Lincoln St. Botolph, Stow in Lindsey, Willingham, Sutton in the Marsh, Welton & Gedney; the county of Oxfordshire, the parishes of Langford & Great Milton; the county of Rutland, parishes of Ketton & Tixover; the county of Leicestershire, parish of Leicester St. Margaret; the county of Berkshire, parish of Leighton Beaudesart [Leighton Buzzard]; the county of Huntingdonshire, parish of Leighton Bromswold, Spaldwick, Barham, Easton & Stow Long; county of Northamptonshire, parishes of Marston St. Lawrence, Nassington, Tarwell, Wood Newton & Fotheringhay; and the county of Nottinghamshire, parishes of South Scarle, Spalford & Girton.
