Description

On 20 May 1650 Walter Bockland of Trotton, esq, sold a third of a moiety of the manor of Iford to William Alcock of Ditchling, yeoman, for £510. The property then descended as recited in AMS5407 and as AMS5407-5409. Thomas Baker released unspecified rights to Thomas Alcock on 28 May 1687. On 17 January 1688 Thomas Alcock and John Ayres executed an agreement concerning £100 left in the hands of Ayres to defend the title. On 14 May 1689 Thomas Alcock released a 14th part of the estate to John Ayres, and Alcock made an order to discharge the estate from an outlawry on 15 January 1690. On 25 April 1690 Alcock assigned his rights under the agreement of 1688 to Richard Davis, citizen and wine-cooper of London, who assigned them to John Ayres for £38 14s 0d the same day. John Ayres left two sons. The elder, Thomas Ayres, enjoyed the estate for life and died without issue; his widow released her rights to his brother Gabriel Ayres in return for an annuity. By his will of 18 October 1757, Gabriel Ayres bequeathed these and other estates to Charles Scrase, esq, and John Griffith, woollen draper, in trust for sale.
