Immediate source of acquisition

OFF ACC 274, 328, 352, 493, 509, 838, 843 and unaccessioned

RDC7/60/1-5, 77/1-2 and probably 38/1-5, 56/1 to 59/1 and 61/1 were transferred by Hatfield RDC in 1956 with the records of the Board of Guardians and were not accessioned. The remainder were transferred by Welwyn Hatfield District Council - see Accessions Register.

Administrative / biographical background

The Rural District Council was the successor to the Hatfield Rural Sanitary Authority. The Rural District contained the parishes of Hatfield, North Mimms, Northaw and Essendon. On 1 April 1974 the district became part of the Welwyn Hatfield District.
