Title translation: 'Book of Antonio Bocarro, Guardian of the Royal Archive of India, general chronicler, etc. Cataloged Manuscripts of Évora Public Library (Lisbon, 1850). Pictorial plans of Portuguese forts in India. Printings of monochrome hand-drawn copies of coloured originals extracted from a larger work, also containing accompanying textual descriptions, titled 'Livro do Estado da India Oriental' ['The Book of the State of Eastern India'] by Antonio Bocarro dated 1640-46 and filed at Sloane MS.197. Original plans drawn by Pedro Barreto de Resende, and portray individual buildings with an emphasis on fortifications, city walls and gateways, and churches. Vegetation and the surrounding countryside are also depicted. Plans numbered as follows:. 15. Fortaleza de Dio. 16. Fortaleza de Damao. 17. Fortes de Sangers e du Dañu. 19. Fortes de Sirgam e de Maim. 20. Fortalezas de Agaçaim e Manora. 22. Fortaleza e cidade de Baçaim. 23. Fortaleza de Tanna. 24. Fortalezas de Mombaim e Ilha de Carania. 25. Thomé de Meliapor - missing since 1974]. 'According to Silva (Tom. 1, p.98, and Tom 6., p.397, P. Barretto de Resende wrote the account of the viceroys, and A. Bocarro the descriptions of the fortresses. There can scarcely be a doubt but that the second part of the Museum MS., although attributed to B. de Resende according to the wording of the title, is really by Bocarro, as it corresponds in all important particulars with the description of Bocarro's work given in the ''Catalogo dos MS. de la Bib. Pub. Eborense.' – India Office map catalogue.
