16 Nov. Bought trilby hat, 3s/9d, overcoat £1.10.0, suit for son £1.05.0.

6 Jan Reluctantly attended Sunday School Treat. ("Glad to be released but one is bound to appear at these functions")
10 Jan. Paid £1 each to the old ladies at the Almshouses - "they were glad to receive the money - (poor things) -")
13 Jan. Reference to main features of interest in St. Bartholemew's Church (Churchdown)
19 Jan. Taken to Badgeworth by Dr. Moore in his motor car - driven by a "chaffeur" [sic] - to vote in General Election
21 Jan. Looked at new clock at Stone Church, costing near £100, given by Miss Wording in memory of her father
22 Jan. Reference to a newspaper containing a notice of the comet [presumably Halley's]
30 Jan. Mrs. Phillips will not have her daughter taught [at Sunday School] by Miss Nicholls because she (Miss Nicholls) has been seen walking with a young man
4 Feb. Mr. Hicks Beach M.P. comes to Churchdown after his recent success in the Election
7 Feb. Girl aged 17 found on railway cut to pieces. Another neighbour found dead in a pond
8 Feb. Dinner, concert, speeches etc. arranged by the Unionist Association - President Dr. Moore. Programme set out in full
21 Feb. Learned of fire at Dale & Forty's, Promenade, Cheltenham. Damages estimated at £3000-4000
25 Feb. Asked to take charge of the School owing to Mr. Phillips having influenza. Readily agreed. [He attended every day during the following week and much enjoyed it]
14 March At the Annual Parish Meeting Dr. Moore proposed that the Gloucester Corporation be asked "as to supplying Churchdown with water and upon what terms"
2 April Anniversary of his mother's birth in 1818
10 April Vicar, Rev. Cooke, announced that he would shortly be departing for 3 months (to go to Rhodesia) and that in his absence his place would be taken by Mr. Marsden
13 April In future the Post Office will be closed every Wednesday afternoon to give the postmistress a weekly ½ holiday
25 April Agreed that a 2/- in the £ rate was necessary - one demand on the parish has enormously increased, viz. the County Rate which is now over £500 for ½ year
27 April Again took charge of school owing to illness of Mr. Phillips (headmaster)
6 May Tonight's Citizen says the King is seriously ill. [He died that night]
24 May Celebration of Empire Day at school
5 June Spell of work at school has ended. Feeling unwell
10 June A caller recommended Ward in Eastgate Street as being a dispenser of good drugs
13 June Still unwell - pain in knee and instep. Seen by Dr. Moore who diagnosed housemaid's knee from kneeling and a general chill. Also "run down". Given tonic
20 June Reports that a Churchdown girl was sentenced to 4 month's hard labour for concealment of birth, then to be received into a home at Wantage
22 June Learned that his charge of 10/6 per day (in his account submitted to the County Council Education Committee) for his work at the school had been reduced to 7/- a day
3 Aug. Visit to Chipping Norton - description - church
5 Aug. Visited Leckhampton Church, where his father and mother were married
