India Office reference collection of maps

The X sequence of India Office maps covers entries in the original 1878 published catalogue (X/1- 4999), maps entered in margins or on interleaves in Catalogue source R, a copy of the 1878 catalogue with room for additions to be added (X/9000-10999), maps subsequently identified in the collection as having entered the IO Maps collection before 1947, mainly from other departments, but not then entered in margins or interleaves of copies of the published catalogue (X/11000-11999), maps known to have been elsewhere in the India Office before 1947, but transferred to the IO Maps collection only after 1947 (X/12000-12999), maps acquired by, or transferred to, the India Office Library and Records in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office between 15 August 1947 and 31 December 1973 (X/13000-13999), and maps and associated documents acquired by, or transferred to, the India Office Records, in the FCO between 1 January 1974 and 31 March 1982 and in The British Library after 1 April 1982 (X/14000 onwards - ).
