Arrangement

Part 1 ff.1-154. Part 2 ff.155-297. The contents of the volume are arranged under a number of headings (see Scope and Content), each heading having its own title cover sheet. At the front of the first book (folios 1B-8) is an index page of correspondence in the volumes, showing date, letter number, address, subject and page numbers, which refer to the original pagination sequence. The correspondence included under each heading is arranged in approximate chronological order, from the earliest at the front to the latest at the rear, and based on the date of outgoing correspondence sent by the Resident. Responses from Government to the Resident's letters are arranged directly after the correspondence they respond to. Many of the incoming and outgoing letters in the volume have a synopsis of the letter's content written on the reverse, which is usually written at a 90 degree angle to the main written content on the front side.
