When the enemy snipers and light machine gunners approached, he rushed them at the head of a small party, shot a gunner with his revolver and captured the gun.

Bar to MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy attack. He kept continually moving between his two guns under intense shell and machine gun fire, and at a critical moment assisted in re-arranging infantry of another Division. After being wounded he refused to leave his guns until satisfied that the enemy's advance had been completely checked.;
